one list at a time

Documenting your story, your life, your thoughts and ideas is always a good thing. It takes time and commitment, yes, but it's so worth the journey. Why not start with one list at a time.

What began as a series of lists documenting me at 49 has turned into a saga...I turned 51 this year. I'm finished with my lists and who really cares if I created my lists at 49 1/2 or 51. No one. The important this is that I started AND completed a project and I feel darn good about that.

I have lots of favorite pens, each serving a different purpose, but my favorite color to write in is black.

they all start out small

They all start out small.

Spring is my most favorite season of the year. To take a walking tour around the property to see if all the plants made it through the winter is an adventure for me. I truly enjoy it with all my heart. I'll often sneak out in my houseshoes and morning cup of coffee to see if there's anything new that popped up overnight.

Remember this? Well it's true.

This gorgeous and wild and untamed pink azalea began in a little one gallon bucket as a Mother's Day gift from Zach probably 15 years ago. At the time, I planted it just outside our basement door. As our landscaping plans changed, I moved it. Several years ago, it was moved again to this spot. It has survived cold winters, a multitude of puppies interested in chewing on everything, and me - the mover of the bush. It's really a perfect spot for this pink beauty because as its buds appear and the blooms begin to open, the leaves on the trees around it are beginning to green as well creating a perfect backdrop.

The hosta's to the left of the azalea all began from a clump of hosta plants that Gordon's Mamaw Wright planted many years ago. I keep thinning them out and dividing them and filling in spots around the yard...all from the original plant. They start out small and grow into big, lush plants in just a few years.

The sickly hydrangea bush to the right is also from an original plant from Gordon's Mamaw. I refuse to give up on it and will probably just have to prune it almost to the ground to bring it back to life. We had a hard winter and I so want to know that this one will make it. Hydrangea's are one of my all time favorite flowers and I want to be able to give cuttings off of it to the kids when they have their own homes.

When I see this azalea every day as I head out the driveway dropping Isabella at the barn to feed the kitty and then driving my two babies to school, I think about my oldest baby no longer living at home far away in Charleston and how he was so proud to give this gift of love. Who knew that this small  gift would continue to bring me smiles and joy 15 years later.

So, just as this azalea started out small, so did my Zach. He's grown, too. He's now 23 and 6' 1". And they're both happy where they are. For now.

#listersgottalist + a giveaway

Sneak a peek at my #listersgottalist mini book using a smash book style journal from the iloveitall.etsy.om shop!

I'm playing along with another list challenge on Instagram and taking a much more low key approach to the whole process {as opposed to the #30lists project}. After reviewing the list I knew that I wasn't going to journal each topic or even post a topic on Instagram every day, but I was going to have fun decorating my lists, that's for sure.

THE LISTS
I don't have enough letter stickers for all the titles, so I usually just choose a word or two to highlight and use my handwriting for the rest. These stickers and chipboard elements are from My Mind's Eye and the sticky note is from the Target Dollar Spot.

If money were no object, my list of Places I Want to Go would be pages long, but this is a pretty good start. I've never even camped in an RV, but for some reason I've always thought it would be fun to rent an RV and do a weeks-long tour of the Western US!

Ahhh, wouldn't you just love to see the good in all people like we did when we were kids?

I'm not creeped out by many things or afraid of many things or really have any phobias that I can think of, but that doesn't stop me from occasionally thinking of things and second-guessing myself.

Like you didn't already know this, but I do love to craft with washi tape! And you can find more shipping tags in the shop.

an update on my 49 lists mini album

#lists #journaling #scrapbook #scrapbooking #journal #birthday

I owe you all an update on my 49 Lists mini album. And it's not quite so mini anymore, let me tell you! It is chunky and full of little tidbits about me. I keep saying that I'm doing this for my kids to find one day so that they'll know more about me and what I thought  and what made me tick. I'm not sure that's so true anymore. As I look back over the lists, some of them are goofy, sure, but so many of them really do capture me and who I am and it's good for me to learn about myself along the way.

If you're wondering, most of the papers and journaling cards and embellishments are from various My Mind's Eye collections. I used to be on their Design Team and began this project as a DT assignment.

And here are a few more I'll share until I do the full reveal with all the pages. I'm trying to find a way to present the pages without it being a 10 page long post. Any ideas? Maybe I could do a slide show, if I could figure out how to do that.

What I'm using in the #listersgottalist IG challenge...a Smash Book with Embellishment Pack from iloveitall.etsy.com

In the planner community on Instagram, there's been a new challenge that has us all interested. If you like lists, and are on Instagram as well, search #listersgottalist hosted by @theresetgirl for more info.

I decided to use a journal kit from the shop {there's a giveaway here, you get your choice of one of five designs} just to make it easier on me as I still have taxes to finish up like yesterday. I embellished the tag a little bit but that's it. Oh, and all those goodies you see, except for the pens, come in a goody bag for you to decorate your pages inside!

I won't be doing all the lists, but here are the challenges I've done so far.

Favorite Songs of All Time
Wow, who can remember them all when put on the spot. I can guess that I'll be adding to this list as I remember more. Aren't those library cards just the cutest? I use them all the time in my mini books and on layouts...they just seem to work so well with lists.

I didn't include all the fish we've had and somehow I forgot to add Himmel, our cutie pie Beagle | German Shepherd mix. We were a military family and our father promised that we could finally have a pet when he retired, and he kept his promise.

See that key? I'm working on a new item for the shop that will include it!

In an effort to use up all my incomplete sets of letter stickers, this is what I came up for this list. I even had to use the negative of the letter "s" to make it work. I love tucking stuff inside glassine bags: lists, sand, ephemera, menu's...and love notes.

The yellow ticket stubs come in the embellishment pack with the journal and seemed the perfect way to have something to grab onto to pull the list out of the bag. And then I incorporated one of my favorite journaling and title techniques, using off cuts as banner shapes by cutting into them. Here, I used my tiny attacher to staple them onto my journaling card which was a gift from a friend.

I'm a huge fan of quotes. And paper doilies. And washi tape. And lists apparently. That little white mini tag {comes with a string} is in the embellishment kit, but you can find more sizes here.

I save negatives of punch cuts and this one just seemed to work so well here for the blank space. Because this journal doesn't 30 full pages to journal for a monthly challenge, I am utilizing the back sides of pages. Here, I added a journaling card and chipboard element from My Mind's Eye, more random stickers and just punched my card and added it to my journal using this tutorial.

travel journal jotter

It won't be long before we're all dreaming about summer vacations so why not take a few moments today to put together a few travel journal jotters. It's a quick and easy project that you'll be glad to have with you on your next adventure!

When we travel, my family knows that I'm going to collect bits and baubles and shells and sand and tickets and menu's and, and, and. But, sometimes in all the collecting I forget the details. And where we went on each day, because it seems that there's not as much down time as I think there's going to be on a trip...so less time scrap than to get everything ready for the next day.

For our all girl Spring Break adventure to Charleston to visit Zach, I grabbed a scrap of one of my favorite papers, some bond paper from my printer and pulled out my sewing machine. That's right, we're going to sew together a travel journal jotter.

This isn't meant to replace the mini book I'm going to make, only to serve as a place to jot notes as you go along each day.

Take the time to embellish your pages with some sticky notes, labels, journaling cards and rub-ons, they make such charming additions to your jotter. And who knows, you may even add your jotter as an insert into your mini album once you get home and have the time to print photos and document your travels.

Be sure to include the restaurants you ate at, in case you want to go back again. And again.

What travel adventures will you soon be documenting?
