journal your gratitudes :: the prep

Call it what you like...journal, diary, mini-album or a combination of all three. I'm using mine to journal my gratitudes for 2o11. Would you like to join me in being aware of the little things in our life that bring joy?

the mess called my desk  ::  lots of projects waiting for completion
The secret to the success of this journal, for me at least, was the small size. I didn't feel compelled to chronicle every detail of my day, I just chose one thing that made me feel happy and fulfilled. My journal stayed on my craft desk, as I spend quite a bit of time there during the day, and when the whim struck me, I wrote. I had more success capturing my thoughts during the day whereas you might have better luck keeping yours on your nightstand and write before nodding off to sleep. Do what works for you.

The mini-album I made to journal my 2010 Gratitudes has been one of my most viewed  projects on the blog and in my Flickr gallery. Thanks for your kind words, it warms my heart and makes me smile!

I finally decided on a format and layout for my journal, here are the measurements and supplies:

  • 2 5x7 chipboard covers
  • patterned cardstock sized to 6.50 x 4.50 {like you would find in a matte stack} - most pages are this size
  • patterned paper sized to 6x4, since I already had a large supply cut to that size - just a few in this size
  • scrap pieces of patterned transparencies {from my December Daily}that are sized to 6.50 x 4.00
  • numerous journaling spots, stickers, labels, journaling cards and tags
  • 2 binder rings
  • corner rounder, border punch, scalloped craft scissors, chipboard letter, letter stickers, stamps
  • journaling card downloads from Karen Grunberg {the same ones I used in the Graduation Album for my son, Zach}

Here are the pages with bare embellishments and no holes punched:

  1. Love this. : ) I think I decided for 2011 to go with a comp notebook. Not fancy, but I'm going to do this with my 7 year old (and maybe the almost 5 year old) and I wanted something that would stand up to a little more abuse and daily handling. Of course, we had to get out all the scrapbook paper and such and cover it! We shall see how that works out for me. : )

  2. I think this is a great journal and idea, I just never follow through with this idea. I start and die quickly. Thanks for sharing it.

  3. Love it! I have been wanting to do something like this for awhile. I have seen numerous other people with them, so now it's my turn to finally get one made and use it!

  4. I love this idea and I am going to get my scraps together and create one of my own! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I've got to start one and If I do I'll be sure to link it to yours ;-)
Thank you for the inspiration Monika!

  6. Just a quick note to let you know that a link to this post will be placed on CraftCrave today [29 Dec 01:00am GMT]. Thanks, Maria

  7. Brilliant idea Monika. I think I might incorporate this idea into the daily art journal I plan to do for 2011. Thanks for the inspiration - I'm grateful for that, for sure!!

  8. When I first saw your 2010 gratitude journal, I was inspired to create one for 2011. I actually made one for my mom and am almost finished with mine. I am adding a few quotes about counting your blessings, etc. and just need to finish adding those before I consider it good to go. Thanks so much for sharing this idea.

  9. Definitely a great idea! Wish I had time to whip something up!

  10. How did you print on the chipboard? Or did it come with those words?

    1. The cover comes with the words and you can find it here:
