It's not the fact that this is a Christmas photo that makes it matter, it's the precious knowledge that this is our first photo as a family of five.

It's not the first time I've used this photo on a layout. And there are plenty of photos that matter. But, something about knowing that we celebrated Christmas Eve at our house with Oma instead of her house because Victoria was only six months old makes it special. Knowing now that even though we have tried to have more children, and I was actually pregnant one more time since Victoria, makes it special...the gift of life is truly a precious gift.

keep it simple
In the hectic rush of the season, I chose to use coordinated product from the All is Bright collection from My Mind's Eye. I trimmed the paper to letter size, being sure to keep the design intact.

Using my craft knife, I trimmed around the doily shape surrounding the letter Y in JOY and tucked our photo that matters behind it. The "all is bright" is a layered sticker that I used to add a bit of texture. You can find a full supply list here and more details here.

When I saw the gold doily, from a goody package my friend Gina sent me, I knew it would be the perfect touch of understated bling for my layout. It makes me smile!

journaling
Your story is important. Our story is important. And I'm not really all that good at journaling, it never seems to tell the story I want it to tell. At least, though, my kids will have some idea of what I was thinking at the time...and it's in my own handwriting.

  1. Such a beautiful, understated bling page! Your posts come to me in my email so I could only see the first picture until I scroll down. I was looking at the gold doily with the banner in the middle thinking "monika is a genius!...and Why didnt i think of that and I need to borrow that design element for a page! (sorry for the huge run on sentence). Then it made me smile so big to read I gave you that doily! I was thinking I had some gold doilies and needed to use some. I am loving cream and gold this Christmas season! Thanks once again for the inspiration!!
