5 on the 5th | june 2014

Making an executive decision, this month's #5onthe5th took place on the 6th because it was our 16th wedding anniversary. I thought it would be nice to capture our everyday life on a special day in our history.

What is 5 on the 5th?

5 on the 5th is a project where I capture our family's extraordinarily ordinary everyday moments on the 5th day of each month. It's based on the infamous 12 on the 12th photo project we've all heard of., but I changed it up knowing that I wouldn't take the time or remember to take 12 photos each month,.

I chose the number 5, since we have 5 family members.

I use my iPhone 5s to take my photos and post to Instagram throughout the day, tagging the photos with #5onthe5th. If you do a search, you'll see that there are other IG'ers documenting their everyday moments right along with me each 5th day of the month.

I then post our 5 photos here on the blog, but most people don't. I just like to because then I have a permanent record of what I've documented each and every month.

1 | Breakfast in bed on our 16th anniversary, served by Victoria. It was the Lemon Pound Cake from Food Lion that Gordon loves. She cut such big pieces for us, we had to split one and save the other piece for later!

iloveitallwithmonikawright.com | #5onthe5th june 2014

2 |  Victoria painted our wedding rings {left} and Isabella painted our portraits {right} for us. They were looking for a project one afternoon, so I searched and found some random canvases. It was all their idea from there. I always love when they do an art project and I have always told my kids that homemade gifts are the best!

If you don't think your kids listen to what you tell them something, here's an example from 22-year old Zach that they do!

iloveitallwithmonikawright.com | #5onthe5th june 2014

3 | He knows I love Don Williams' voice, so he bought us tickets to see him in October! This, after I mentioned the concert to him and he said that it would be a good night to take Oma and Nana. I thought he didn't want to go. Well, he may still not want to go, but he's going because he knows I want to go. Love that guy.

iloveitallwithmonikawright.com | #5onthe5th june 2014

4 | Work to do before the new roof can go on and we can install the wood siding that matches our 50-year old home. Then we can add the portico, install a new door, prime and paint, install the gutters, finish the landscaping, add the mulch and then I think we might be finished.

And this photo is such a perfect depiction of our life the last 16 years...always a project, always a new goal to work toward.

iloveitallwithmonikawright.com | #5onthe5th june 2014

5 | Instead of doing what he had planned for our anniversary, we gathered with family and attended the memorial service for Uncle Bennett {Nana's oldest brother by 15 years}. It's been a tough few months for our family, but we're going to make it.

And now a blurry photo taken by Spunky, but one that I'm tickled to have anyway!

iloveitallwithmonikawright.com | #5onthe5th june 2014

Sixteen years ago we vowed to be each other's partner forever on this bridge. We have grown in love and admiration for each other and every day find new things to love about each other. I'm the lucky one, that's for sure.

We have been treated to some marvelously beautiful, sunny, warm days and have been taking advantage of them as one never knows when the weather will turn cold and dreary again. I'm not convinced that Spring is here to stay.

I'm changing up how I post my #5onthe5th photos this month, just to see if I like it.

5 on the 5th | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

1 | Doing errands in town on this beautiful day!
I wouldn't normally take a photo of the inside of my purse, but I was doing a photo challenge and thought, "Why not?" I don't usually carry too much with me, but love that this bag has enough room for be to throw whatever I need in there. It's quickly become one of my favorites.

5 on the 5th | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

2 | Another day, another car pick-up line. Sunroof down on this 55* day running errands and I have a fun trip to town for dinner planned for the girls. When DaDa is away on business, the Wright Girls WILL have fun! I couldn't believe that 55* actually felt this deliciously warm.

5 on the 5th | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

3 | The first of many crowded, messy dressing rooms in my future.
When the girls modeled their outfits for their DaDa, he told me later, "I'm not sure we're ready for outfits like that." Yes, I agree, but one every now and then is okay. I think we still want them both to stay our little girls.

5 on the 5th | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

4 | Zach and his buddies {in Charleston}. And how did the most handsome one end up in the back? {No offense to has nice friends that agreed to have a stranger take their photo so that Zach could satisfy his Mama's request for a #5onthe5th photo. Thanks, Zach's friends!}
Zach remembered to send along a photo, with one or two gentle reminders from his Mama.

5 | Gordon is away on business:  he's crunching numbers while munching on a Moon Pie.

Half of the fifth day of August had already passed before I even realized that it was #5onthe5th time. Not one to be outdone, the decision to document our everyday, normal afternoon routine was made. It was noted in my Filofax, but it still slipped my mind.

So, here we go with an afternoon in our life.

1  |  One smart cookie picked up and eating her snack and we're in the school pick-up line waiting for smart little cookie number two.

2  |   This is the extra long middle school pick-up line that extends off school property onto the highway where cars park along the median to wait.

3  |  Smart cookie number two is on board and eating her snack as we do our daily run to the post office to ship fun packages to my customers all over the world.

4  |  The afternoon #5onthe5th escapades continue as Spunkerdoodle snoozes during the 4 minute ride home from the post office. 3rd grade is wearing her out!

5  |  Our day is always better with a little ice cream smothered with fresh fruit. We sliced our load of peaches, thinking that we may try to make another batch of homemade peach ice cream.

TIP OF THE DAY: Dunk your peaches in boiling water for a bit, the skins will then easily peel off.

5 on the 5th | april 2014

Each month I wonder what could I possibly take photos of that tell our family's story. If you're like me, you think that you've taken all the photos that could possibly be taken.

Wrong.

For April's 5 on the 5th photo project, I focused on art projects that kids have created. I'm glad I did because I don't think that I've ever taken photos of all their creations and it's something I want to do and perhaps even create a mini album of the collection.

I use my iPhone to take my photos and post to Instagram throughout the day, tagging the photos with #5onthe5th. If you do a search, you'll see that there are other IG'ers documenting their everyday moments right along with me each 5th day of the month.

I then post our 5 photos here on the blog, but most people don't. I just like to because then I have a permanent record of what I've documented.

Why should you take on another photo project?

If you happen to be thinking, as I often do, that time is precious and you just don't know that you can add another to do item to your list, I perfectly understand. But let me share this, as I look back on all our 5 on the 5th blog posts I see that I've captured moments that I had already forgotten about, that would have been lost if not for the 10 seconds it took me to snap a quick photo.

But I'm single...newly married...we don't have kids...our kids are grown.

If you're single, or are newly married, or don't have any children and think it's not a project for you...you're wrong. Wrong. I would love to have more everyday, detail photos of my days as a single college student. And I know I want photos of Gordon and I when we're the only ones left at home, I pray we have new, never done before adventures of our own to capture and document.

April 2014

5 on the 5th April 2014 | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

1 | We have a home full of art projects on display and I am in awe of their talents! They take after their DaDa in the artistic arena. I am creative, but couldn't paint a bowl of fruit if I tried. Just as with everything else, each of the kids has their own personal style.

5 on the 5th April 2014 | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

2 | Doesn't everyone have a drawing of themselves hanging on the dryer? We have so many art projects and drawings and creations that Victoria just takes it upon herself to find new ways to display them all. This one has been hanging on the dryer for over a year...and it's still there.

The rug used to be in the Nursery and we've given it a new home in the laundry room, which used to also be my craft room. I had desks lined up on the wall under the window you see in the photo.

5 on the 5th April 2014 | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

3 | The other side of our laundry room has a clay art peace sign made by Zach during a Summer art class and a drawing by Isabella drawn years ago of her most favorite sleep buddy, Princess Kitty. Princess Kitty is now about as flat as that piece of paper and she still sleeps with her. She does not like to think of the day when Kitty won't be part of her bedtime routine.

5 on the 5th April 2014 | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

4 | The girls didn't know that I was going with an art theme for #5onthe5th this month, but look at what I spied them doing this afternoon, creating more art! This time they're painting and that's why they're sitting on top of a plastic tablecloth.

5 on the 5th April 2014 | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

5 | Mermaid and Weaving. Created by Victoria and Zach. Zach's weaving won an award in the county Art Show many years ago. And yes, more laundry room art...at least I am surrounded by beauty while I wash, dry, fold and iron.

I obviously did not look in my Filofax to realize that Saturday was the 5th of the month and so yesterday I improvised and took 5 photos on the 6th. The girls were at Nana's swimming, which is typical for a summer Sunday and, actually, it was pretty typical for us to be working on some sort of home improvement project as well.

1  |  Wrapping the garage so we can FINALLY get the siding up. I so want this side finished do I can finish the landscaping!

2  |  Onward. Even though I'm never in "working" photos, I'm right alongside him. Okay, he does all the heavy lifting and figuring and cutting, but we make a good team.

3  |  Time for an ice cream break. Thankfully, the temperature has been kind to us thus far and the humidity is very low. But, it's still time for a break!

5 on the 5th | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

4  |  Finished! At least with this side. Edge trimming needs to go up, replace the steel door with the wood door with glass panes {that will need to be sanded and stained} and then prime and paint the siding. Oh, and then we can finish the plant installation. Thanks Mr. wRight, you're awesome!

5 on the 5th | iloveitallwithmonikawright.com

5  |  A Mad Men marathon. In bed. Seems perfect after a tiring day. All of our favorite shows are on summer break, so we're looking into new shows to watch until the Fall premieres. This one is my choice and we're on Season 4. Next round, Gordon gets to choose.

I've been doing this 5 on the 5th project for long enough now that the girls know it's picture day when they take a peek at the calendar and see what the date is. Victoria went to so far as to add it to the pocket Filofax she received for Christmas and Isabella even came downstairs yesterday evening and said, "There are some pretty interesting things going on upstairs {they were playing together in Victoria's room} if you want to take some more photos."

Aaaah.

And now that they have their own mini iPads, I'm hoping they'll be a big part of this project this year right along beside me. Snapping away.

Some months, our oldest contributes a photo when I ask {he lives in Charleston} and sometimes he doesn't and I try to be okay with that.

What is 5 on the 5th?

5 on the 5th | september 2013

Here at the Love Shack, we are knee high in home renovations. Well, outdoor home renovations to be more exact. The mud porch project has morphed into so many other projects {can you say cha-ching?} that we're glad to have decided against taking a vacation this year and quite grateful for the lovely Etsy customers who support my shop each day.

1  |  The girls have been extra sleepy this week and have resisted their morning wake-up calls.  Once they are on the road to school, though, they perk up with tons of energy and are full of chatter as they talk about the day ahead. They are ready to embrace the day and conquer the world.

I marvel at their confidence, something I did not have at their age. Believe it or not, I was shy, quiet and reserved.

2  |  Mr. wrRight continues to amaze me with his talents each and every day. How does he know how to do everything he does? Really? Over our 15 years of marriage, I've come to realize that not always does he know how to do what he sets out to accomplish, but he always figures it out and delivers a quality product. Maybe that's where my girls get their confidence. Okay, maybe a little bit from me, too. Coming from two first-born parents, it's not often we back down from a project or allow defeat.

The chimney tear-down, which morphed from the mud porch project, resulted in a small hole and became bigger because, upon further inspection, it revealed dry rot. Yes, this part of the roof is above my side of the bed so I was quite concerned about it all. The hole is repaired, a new soffit installed and a roofer has been here and gone to patch the roof.

3  |  Our border collie, Scout, is a runner. I mean this dog can run. Fast. I would say he can go 20 mph. Each time we head up our driveway, he heads out a break neck speed, cuts in front of the Suburban right before the bridge, goes through the field and up the bank to wait on us until we get there. He then cuts across the driveway, up the other side of the mountain and takes the long way back home to wait on us until we return.

You can barely see him in this photo, but he's there where the trees clear just to the right front of the Suburban, waiting for us.

4  |  As I walked down to the barn, where I had parked in case the roofer came, I looked down and saw the cutest, smallest, tiniest mini acorn I've ever seen. I adore Fall and everything about the season, so this was a good sign for me of all the good things to come.

5  |  Because we've been busy all week with projects, we were in dire need of a stop at the grocery store. We headed to our local market and picked up just a few essentials. The girls love carrots and Ranch dip. Victoria is hooked on orange juice. There were impulse buys of potato chips and chocolate milk. And we always buy two gallons of Mayfield milk every time we go to the store. We drink lots of milk.

I love when Gordon tells the girls, "Milk does a body good, just look at Mommy." They don't get it at all, but it makes me giddy that he still thinks that about little old 49-year old me.

Someone asked me on Intagram what #5onthe5th was, so I told her. If you're new to the blog and wondering the same thing, read this blog post

5onthe5th | june 2013

June 5th just was not even on my radar this month. Didn't even think about documenting. When did I realize that I had no photos? On the morning of June 6th, which just  happened to be our 15th Wedding Anniversary, so this month you have 5 on the 5th on the 6th.

1  |  We made a family trip to Lowe's one Spring afternoon to get some tomato plants. We cheated and purchased one rather large tomato plant so that we would see quicker results in our farming project. It worked! The huge plant treated the girls to a juicy red tomato on the 6th and today Isabella noticed another red, juicy tomato just wanting to be picked.

2  | Hello Knoxville! We spent our 15th anniversary day together, thankfully, running errands and checking out options for porch addition and landscaping project. Living in the mountains, we have the joy of being just 20 minutes away from a large city and just 45 minutes away from Knoxville.

3  |  Off we went on our adventure, after dropping the girls off for Oma Day, to the Bomanite office to see samples and colors and, of all things, we joined Costco. Finally. Wow, we love that place. And we were good, we only purchased items that we would actually use and didn't get sucked into that "Oh, but this is such a good deal!" scenario. And no, we did not purchase the pergola, but Gordon couldn't believe the $799 price tag for something pre-built AND cedar. I would never have noticed that.

4  |  No photo of the lovely couple on their anniversary, but I did get a snapshot of the lovely couple's sunglasses.

5  |  I did snap some photos of the lovely couple's daughters, though, while they sang and worshipped and enjoyed the activities at Vacation Bible School. It appears that the rock climbing wall was a great adventure for them both. Isabella was within inches of the top and looked down, so she was ready to come on down. Victoria got almost half way and she was ready to head to terra firma.

No fancy clothes, no hot date night...just an ordinary day in our extraordinary lives. Perfect way to celebrate our happily ever after, don't you think?

A little background. The 5 on the 5th project I've been doing for the past 14 months is based on the 12 on the 12th project that Ella Publishing {I was once a Design Team member} popularized last year. By the way, they are now part of Big Picture Classes! I knew that I wouldn't take the time to do 12 photos, but thought that five would be a good number for me. We have five family members and occasionally, Zach contributes a photo to my monthly montage.

1  |  we've been married for nearly 15 years and probably have had this server for 12 of those years. it's had temporary spots in different locations in our home over the years, lastly in our sun room. on a whim, we moved it in front of the window in our rather smallish dining room. we moved the table out, which makes it not centered under the chandelier, but i love it anyhow. it feels so fancy schmancy and cozy and warm. i kinda feel i'm in a southern living magazine spread. yes, Peppy Paige, the american girl doll is sitting in Victoria's chair and no, i had not finished decorating the top of the server.

2  |  one of the prints from the shop in a very non-valeniney color of seafoam. love it. seems so perfect with the styrofoam balls i covered with tons of baker's twine for a project last year. always fun to change out the goodies on our sofa table for the seasons.

3  |  my Sweetie knows me so well. i don't want dead flowers that cost a ton. if they're cheap, okay, go for it. or even better, pick me bouquet from the yard. soooo...in my new studio, i have an oversized ampersand on display that i picked up for cheap at hobby lobby. he came home today with these mugs from starbucks that say you.me. and have an ampersand on the front. so very me. he won't be home for valentine's day, but i will have a cute mug to drink out of and while i think about him.

4  |  big boys and their toys. this is scout number 3 of 4. they make him happy. he loves a project. or two. or three. or four.

5  |  this little loveseat has been around for about 12 years as well and it's amazing that in the past month, we've used it more than we have in the whole 12 years its been hanging out in the sun room. it's really very comfy. the girls like to sit down and talk to me while i'm in my studio. they like to read. they like to cuddle with Smoky. and the best thing, Gordon comes in after cleaning up the dinner dishes with a cup of coffee in hand for us to share. we chat. he surfs on his iPad. i putter. the girls interrupt every five minutes.

life is good.

5 on the 5th | december 2013

Take 12 of my 5 on the 5th project for 2013 and I loved every moment captured! You can see all my entries here.

1  |  It's Wacky Tacky Day for Spirit Week at school. These girls of mine are always wacky, but getting ready this morning was so much fun for them as they let their inner tackiness take reign! I love their enthusiasm and creativity. Not sure I was as wacky at that age. Don't know that I'm all that wacky now, but love that they are.

2  |  Walking back from feeding the barn kitty, Mommy Boots, because I forgot to stop the car and let Isabella out to do it before biscuits and gravy for breakfast at school today, I looked up and saw this beautiful shot. I love that it's been in the family for 50 years and we're lucky enough to call it our home now. Hopefully it will still stand once we no longer live here.

3  |  Meet Snowflake, our not so mischievous Elf on the Shelf. It's our first year with Snowflake and so far, she's been quite entertaining. One thing is for sure, Isabella and Victoria are up and at 'em early every morning trying to find where Snowflake has landed after her long night.

4  | When Zach was younger, we would decorate the tree together and I would secretly rearrange ornaments so that it was "perfect." Now, I let the girls decorate and don't move a thing and it's still a beautiful tree. Sure, we have spots with lots of ornaments and then…well you know the rest of the story. Love our tree.  And if you 're reading this, sorry, Zach.

5  |  Christmas bedtime stories in our bed, which is a rare happening. Now, though, they take turns reading to us most nights. And it warms my heart to hear them say, as they unwrap their books each night, "Oh, this is my favorite, Mommy! How did you know?" I'm doing really well this year not getting too melancholy about Zach being away from home and remembering when it was him who was reading most of these stories.

I'll be 50 in March and I had this bright idea of journaling on 49 different list topics as I head into my fifth decade. Sheesh, can I really be that old? This post shares a few of my lists and I'll be updating beginning in January so that all 49 of my lists are revealed!

The blog post has several tutorials on how I created the album by repurposing an old book and many of the pages as well. Find more projects made while I was a member of the My Mind's Eye Design Team.

Downloads

Project Five
I love creating free download and here are a few for Father's Day, Mother's Day, Granparent's Day and for Birthday's too! You might notice that I sneak in a little baker's twine from The Twinery on every single one of them. I'm a Senior Designer for the team and there's a Design Team Call going on now…so hurry and submit your application, it's such a great team to be part of!

Project Six
Sometimes simple is best, it lets the story shine. And that's what I've done here with this page template {a free download} sized to 8x8. I print out a ton of them, trim them, insert them into page protectors and then all I have to do is add a photo and journal our family traditions.

Tutorials

Project Seven
This project was so, so fun and I hope you have a chance to make one for your own home. Don't worry, this is a battery-operated candle…and here's the tutorial to make your own Easter Egg Candle Wrap. You might also be interested in a  similar idea my girls did together, using Christmas ornaments to make a wreath.

Project Eight
Why not let your crafting supplies be a part of your home decor? I do it all the time! Do you love baker's twine as much as I do?

Blog Features

Project Nine
I have several ongoing blog features that you can find links to in the sidebar. It's a nice way for me to document some family history and a few things about myself as well.

Right Now is a blog feature where I document my thoughts each month. Many bloggers do the same thing using the terms currents or currently, but this is what I chose to name my series…kind of a play on our family name. Feel free to download the page template and get started documenting your right now's.

5 on the 5th is where I take 5 photos on the 5th of each month. I just use my iPhone and post to Instagram with the hashtag #5onthe5th {feel free to join in…I'm @monikawright_iloveitall} and then I do a blog post documenting the extraordinary moments of our ordinary, everyday life. One of my favorite things to do each month, for sure!

Project Studio is a sporadic, but ongoing blog feature where I share how I organize my crafty supplies. As many of you know, organizing a crafting place is a never-ending project and we always find new ways to organize that work for a while and then our needs change. And that reminds me, I need to do a major clean-up right now!

Project Ten
I've always been a planner user, but have just recently become more committed to really using it and making it my one source for all things:  my business, my family, dreams, lists, projects, plans and more. I use a Filofax brand planner, but there are so many choices out there…use what works best for you.

I've found that my love of organization mixed with downloads that I create for my own use and share with others and loads and loads of my scrapbooking supplies, I'm able to add a bit more sanity to my life because my memory is not what it once was.

A friend and I just recently began a new blog series called Filofax Friday {#filofaxfriday on Instagram} where we'll share tips, tricks, tutorials, downloads and inspiration the first Friday of each month. Join us in our adventure to better organization.

And in my Esty shop, I Love It All, the top three "projects" this year have been:
