crafting for mother's day

If I had read the directions that came with the Martha Stewart scorer that I purchased about a month ago, I would have seen the directions for the cute gift boxes you see below. The top and bottom are each made with an 8x8 piece of cardstock. As you might know, lilac is not my fave color and I thought that I would use a sheet of this less than favorite color just to test it out.

I ended up falling in love with the simplicity of the box that I pulled out another sheet and made one more. Then, I decided that since I had made them, I would use them for Mother's Day. So I am.

You can see that I stamped inside the bottom of the box before assembling them. That way, when the Mom's pull out their gift, they'll be greeted with a sweet message.

And this is the inside of the top of the box. The bottoms and tops are two different colors of lilac cardstock, but I'm going with it. I truly don't think that our Mom's will notice one little bit. Next time I make these, I'm going to use double-sided patterned cardstock, which will just make it over-the-top!

These keychains were going to be Christmas presents, but plans changed. Voila, ahead of the game for Mother's Day. Oh, yeah!

And here are the gifts, again, wrapped with baker's twine in Peapod and Lilac from The Twinery. I used two 9 foot strands {one of each color} and folded them in half, making a 4.5 foot long piece of twine. I then wrapped the box, and tied a bow. Then tied another bow. Then tied a third bow to make this full, loopy embellishment. Doesn't the twine make those lilac boxes simply lovely? I think so, too.

This project was the Mother's Day gift to the Mom's last year. I used an iron-on transfer to get this quote on my gingham fabric. Being the impatient one, I did not wait until I could get some nice linen colored fabric, so I went with what was in my stash. And I made some felt flowers to embellish the art.

I covered some canvases purchased from the Dollar Tree and stapled the fabric onto the canvas, after taking off the picture hanger then added a piece of patterned paper and added the picture hanger back. Add a journaling spot and a message and voila, another gift completed.

You can download the Good Mother quote here or you can find it in the sidebar or in the menu bar under the downloads tab. Remember, it's already flipped for you...ready to print onto your iron-on transfer paper.

Need another Mother's Day idea? This will make mom smile! And be sure to check out Free Downloads for some cute Mother's Day cards.
